Competition Rules

About Ultimate Comedian

Ultimate Comedian is a professionally produced stand up comedy competition launched in Texas and built to scale nationally and globally. Competitors advance through structured rounds with consistent judging standards and live audiences.

This competition is designed for serious performers and long term growth.

Prize Pool

There are two independent prize pools: Ultimate Comedian (Main Prize) (Celebrity Judged) and People's Choice / Golden Buzzer (Live Audience Real Time Voting).

    • $15,000 + Trophy + Paid Texas State 5 show Tour

People's Choice Award

Registration & Eligibility

  • Each comedian may register and audition one (1) time only.

  • No re-entries or aliases permitted. Registration fees are non-refundable.

  • Participants must be 18 years or older

Judging Structure

  • Each round includes two (2) fixed celebrity comedian judges and one (1) rotating wild-card celebrity judge.

  • Judges' scores are final.

  • Private communication with judges is prohibited

  • Both Resident Judges chosen for:

    • Actively working comics​

    • Help get you bookings you power

    • Industry respect & connections

    • History performing in and/or judging comedy competitions

    • Proven track record of success in entertainment

  • Wild Card Judges chosen for:​

    • Actively touring comedians/actors/performers​

    • Audience draw 

    • Industry & Mainstream fame

    • Proven track record of success in entertainment

Judging Structure

  • 10 Points - Overall Impression

    • Would a venue book you based on this performance?

    • Did you win over the room?

  • 15 Points - Stage Presence & Confidence

    • Did you set the stage properly?​

    • Did you command the stage?

    • Did you use the space effectively?

    • Did you manage your set time appropriately

  • 15 Points - Joke Writing & Structure

    • Clear setups, punchlines, and transitions

    • Cohesive and intentional set structure​

  • 20 Points - Originality & Material

    • ​Fresh perspective

    • Authentic voice

    • Distinct material that stands apart as unique to you

  • 20 Points - Timing & Delivery

    • Pacing, pauses, and emphasis

    • Control of rhythm and flow​

  • 20 Points - Audience Reaction & Relatability

    • Consistency and strength of audience response

    • Connection with the room​

Total Possible Score - 100 Points

People's Choice Award
 

​

  • Live audience voting will determine the winners of the People's Choice.

  • To prevent bias all voters will be required to vote for their top THREE favorite comedians of the night for their vote to count

  • These are rules in place to be sure that this is not a "Bringer" competition, but you WILL be required to promote yourself! 

Protection Points
 

 

  • Each comedian receives a unique promotional code that will apply throughout the full season 

  • One (1) Protection Point is earned per ticket sold using the promo code, up to a maximum of twenty (30).

  • If ticket is a no show or for any reason does not check in, the ticket is worth half a point (.5)

  • One quarter of a protection point (.25) will also be awarded for tickets sold for online viewing only

  • Protection Points apply ONLY to Ultimate Comedian scores as a way for the audience to potentially protect your UC score.

  • ​Due to the travel component creating an unfair advantage for the Austin region, during State Semi and State Finale Shows the online viewing tickets will be worth (.5) half a point.

Contest Structure & Set Times

  • Strict set times will be enforced to maintain the show schedule.

    • Regional Preliminary  ​

      • You will attend one of two preliminary show dates

      • 2 min sets

      • 2 hour show time (could fluctuate by 30 minutes)

      • 30 Competitors each show

      • 12 Moving forward from each preliminary (9 Judge Scoring | 3 People's Choice

    • Regional Qualifier       

        • You will attend your regions qualifier​

        • 3 min sets

        • 2 hour show time (could fluctuate by 30 minutes)

        • 24 Competitors 

        • 8 Move from each regional qualifier (5 Judge Scoring | 3 People's Choice)

      • State Semi Final        

        • You will attend one of  two state semi final dates​

        • All State Level competition phases will be held in Austin Texas regardless of preliminary region

        • 4 Min sets

        • 2.5 hour show time (could fluctuate by 30 minutes) 

        • Date is given at random

        • 20 competitors

        • 10 move forward (7 Judge Scoring | People's Choice)

      • State Final Show    

        • You will attend one of  two state semi final dates​

        • 5 Min sets

        • 3 hour show time (could fluctuate by 30 minutes) 

        • 20 competitors

        • 6 Cash Prizes + UC Tour of Texas 

        • ONE ULTIMATE COMEDIAN

        • Prizes awarded as event!

  • Running over time may result in point deductions with the judges.

  • Music will play if you have ran the light

   

Line Up

  • ​Performance orders will be automatically randomized the day of each event.

  • After Regional Finals comedians will be randomly split into two (2) State Semi Final shows.

Content & Conduct

  • No repeated material is allowed at any level of the UC competition.

    • Plagiarized material presented as original results in immediate disqualification.

  • No punching down.

  • No harassment, threats, or disruptive behavior.

  • Intoxication affecting professionalism may result in removal.

Stage Etiquette 

  • Comedians must set and reset the stage and respect production cues.

  • Unauthorized props or equipment changes are not permitted.

  • Comedians will not waste stage time by arguing with judge feedback.

Dress Code

  • Dress Code is mandatory for competitors, and judges.

  • Dress Code

      • Cocktail Attire / Texas Formal

      • No shorts, No Flip Flops  and No flip flops

      • ""Red Carpet" Vibes

      • These shows will be set up and presented as RED CARPET style events

Promotion

  • Comedian Competitors are expected to promote themselves and their event!

  • Your promotional effort is a huge key to your success

  • Custom Flyers with a unique promo code will be provided 

  • Direct tie to UC Protection Points

​

Media

  • Audience nor competitors are permitted to record at any event.

  • Standard professional media will be provided to each registered competitor + Judges

  • Show will be professionally filmed and live streamed

​

Tie Breakers

  • Ties in the Ultimate Comedian competition are broken using People's Choice scores.

  • Ties in People's Choice are broken using Ultimate Comedian judge scores.

  • If a tie remains, UC production team will make the final decision.

​

Final Authority

  • Unmuted Entertainment & UC Production Team reserves the right to clarify, enforce, or modify rules to protect fairness and integrity.
